UAN or Universal Account Number is a 12 digit number introduced by the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). This 12 digit number helps employees of an organization easily access their EPF (Employees' Provident Fund) information without depending on their employer.
UAN provides information of all Provident Fund accounts associated with various IDs in one place, and users can transfer balances from their previous organization to their current one.
An organization that has more than 20 employees needs to issue their employees a UAN number, and employees need to activate this number on their end.

How to get a new Universal Account Number generated for your employee?

1. Go to the UAN login portal or EPF Employer Portal and login to your profile using your establishment ID and password.

2. Click on the ‘register individual’ button in the member section and furnish the employee’s identity and address proofs.

3. After an employer’s approval, the employee’s Universal Account Number is generated, and the employee can use this to link their previous PF accounts registered with multiple IDs with this UAN.

How to activate your UAN once your employer provides the same?

You would only be able to activate your Universal Account Number with the help of your PF number as well as the employer-provided UAN. With these two numbers, you can activate your UAN account through the following steps-

1. Login to the EPFO login portal and under the services section, click on the ‘For employees’ button.

2. Under the services section of the ‘For employees’ page, select the ‘Member UAN/Online Service (OCS/OTCP)’ option. After this, click on the ‘activate UAN’ option.

3. Enter all the information like PF number, mobile number, UAN, etc., and click on the “Get Authorisation PIN”. Enter the PIN received on your registered mobile number and click on the “Activate UAN” option.

4. You will receive a password on your registered mobile number after activating your UAN, which can be used to access your UAN account.

How to link my Aadhar with my UAN and PF?

1. Visit the provident fund login portal/UAN member login portal and click on the “For employees” option under the services section on the top left corner.

2. In the “For employees” page, click on the “Member UAN/Online Service (OCS/OTCP)” option. After this, enter your UAN number, password, captcha, and click sign in.

3. On the next page, click on the “manage” option, and select on the KYC button. Under the Add KYC section, enter your details such as Aadhar, PAN, Bank details, Driving License, etc., and click submit. Your KYC status will be pending for about two weeks, within which your employer verify and approve your details. Your KYC step is complete after this step.
