Whether you’re applying for a green card (permanent residency card) or for citizenship, the multiple forms needed to be filed and multiple procedures at each stage can often lead to applicants losing track of their USCIS case status. In order to move forward, all the previous procedures need to be completed and this article unravels how applicants can track the USCIS case status online.

How to check my status?

One can check the status of their application through the USCIS website itself. It can be done through the following steps-

1. Visit the USCIS tracking portal.

2. Enter your unique 13-character USCIS receipt number in the “Enter a Receipt Number” field.
Remember to omit dashes when entering your USCIS receipt number.

3. Click on the “Check Status” button.

Note- This case tracker can be used to check immigration application, petition, or request status.

How to check case processing times?

Applicants can check their case processing times before filing their forms here.
Forms pertaining to various applications and petitions can be chosen from the dropdown, post which applicants need to select the relevant Field Office or Service Center and click on “Get Processing Time” to fetch the approximate case resolution timeline.

Who Can Check Their USCIS Case Status?

Applicants who have filed the following petitions/applications can check the status of their case-

  • Citizenship

  • Form I-485

  • Adjustment of Status (AoS)

  • Advance Parole

  • Form I-765

  • Employment Authorization Documents (EAD)

  • Form I-140

  • H1-B Applications

  • Green Card Applications

What are the other modes through which I can check my case status?

In case you are not able to check the status of your application through the USCIS case tracker, you can still do the same through email, telephone, or in-person (at the local center).

Email- You can mail the USCIS Service Center with your inquiry to check your USCIS case status to one of the following Email IDs-

  • Texas Service Center- tsc.ncscfollowup@dhs.gov

  • California Service Center- csc-ncsc-followup@dhs.gov

  • Nebraska Service Center- ncscfollowup.nsc@dhs.gov

  • Vermont Service Center- vsc.ncscfollowup@dhs.gov


Telephone- You can check the status of your case by calling 1 (800) 375-5283 and following the automated instructions.

In-person visit- Applicants can check this status by visiting their local processing center.
