Form I-90- Everything you need to know-

A green card is a document that permits one to reside and work in the US permanently. This document allows one to verify one’s identity and eligibility to reside in the US and can have either a validity of two years or ten years, depending on one’s situation.
As an initiative taken by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Green Card holders can renew their existing green card upon filling a form known as Form I-90.
All green cards (with a 10-year validity period) with the exception of conditional green cards (with a validity period of 2 years) can be renewed with the help of Form I-90.
It is recommended to renew a green card at least six months prior to the expiration date.

Apart from just the expiration of green cards, Form I-90 can be submitted by green-card holders in the case of theft, loss, or destruction of the green card. In case any changes are needed to be made to the card as a result of incorrect data/ updated information, Form I-90 can be submitted.
