How to renew US visa: Step by Step Guide

Over 1 million Indians go to the US every year, all on tourist, student or work visas. But after getting your visa, you may be wondering - how do I renew my US visa? It can seem daunting, but the process is fairly straightforward and easy to do.

How do I renew my US visa? What is the procedure for renewal of US visa?

The procedure for renewal of US visa is fairly straightforward (this is for nonimmigrant visa):

Step 1: Apply online by completing the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form. After you complete the form, print the confirmation page with the bar code (you’ll need this to get into the embassy for your interview).

Step 2: Register an account on the < US Embassy’s secure portal. Follow the steps to schedule an interview. If you can answer “yes” to all the points on the US embassy’s interview waiver checklist, you receive an interview waiver. If the applicant is below the age of 14 or above 80 years old, they are also waived from appearing for an interview.

Step 3: Pay the visa fee online.

Step 4: If you’ve qualified for an interview waiver, you will receive a submission letter with a checklist for all the documents you need to submit. Print the letter, and along with your passport and all the required documents, drop off the package at the service center in India on your scheduled date between 10am-4pm.
The service center will send your documents to the embassy, who will review your documents before approving your renewal application. If they require more information, you’ll get an email. Once your application is approved, you can pick up your passport at the Document Collection center you specified when making the application.

And that’s it! You’re all set to renew US visa! These steps can be done anywhere where there is a US embassy - you can renew US visa in Canada in the same way.
